COUNTRYSIDE EXPERIENCE AT GORSE HILL NATURE RESERVE
The Northwest Ecological Trust offers Key Stage 1 and 2 pupils outdoor educational activities at Gorse Hill Nature Reserve to complement the science curriculum including:
- working scientifically;
- plants;
- animals;
- seasonal changes; and
- living things and their habitats
(Other curricular areas can be negotiated)
Please see the rest of this website for information about Gorse Hill Nature Reserve, its location and flora and fauna.
Other useful information for teachers and parents:
- full risk assessment and Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance available;
- the Visitor Centre doubles as an indoor education room;
- we can offer Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays for group visits;
- for a limited period only, we can offer the first 24 groups that book in advance a 2 hour session free of charge. After this a charge of £100 per 2 hour session will be made. Fees are payable in advance to Northwest Ecological Trust;
- cancellation will need a minimum of 24 hour notice, a refund is dependent upon this notice being given;
- organising children into groups of 6 with an adult group leader will ensure the greatest educational benefit;
- suitable outdoor clothing and footwear is needed, wellingtons are ideal as footpaths can be muddy, slippery and uneven;
- most paths are wheelchair accessible but some wooded areas may need to be negotiated prior to visit;
- our car park is limited to 12 cars or minibuses, it is not suitable for coaches. Any coach parties would need to be dropped off at and collected from the junction with Gaw Hill Lane and Holly Lane (see maps on the ‘How to Find Us’ tab) and this is a short 300m walk to the Nature Reserve Centre.
