The Northwest Ecological Trust is an independent registered charity founded in 1988 by a small group of conservation-minded individuals concerned about the loss and damage to local environments. We set out to create, protect and preserve natural habitats for the benefit of wildlife and, in 2010, we were awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
Our aims are:
- to help reverse the loss of wildlife habitat
- to involve individuals and groups in our work in order to educate and inform
- to make contact with and involve the local community
In 1996 we began developing Gorse Hill Nature Reserve in Aughton, Ormskirk to create a diverse habitat for local wildlife from a prairie landscape. We continue to manage, maintain and develop this 84 acre site and are totally reliant upon the help and support of volunteers to undertake this work.
